Millets Farm – Pick your own produce

In Oxfordshire there is a fabulous place called Millets Farm that offer ‘pick your own’ harvesting during the summer months. Sam payed a visit to the farm over the August long weekend keen to roam the 50 acres of designated crops growing up to 30 different fruits and vegetables.

This really is ‘field to fork’ freshness at it’s best, and for a group of London food lovers who rely on weekly farmers markets for fresh produce, it was heaven.

A board near the entrance announces what fruit and vegetables are still available and at what per kilo cost. Unfortunately when Sam visited, there were very little vegetables available, but there was plenty of raspberries, apples, plums and blackberries to pick.

Sam managed to collect a punnet full of delicious strawberries (£3.95/kilo) though some *ahem* didn’t quite make it to the bucket. Much harder to sneak a bite of were the delicious Bramley apples

Unfortunately the pick your own is only open from June to September, and closed this year on the 19th September. A great day trip idea from London, but I guess I will just have to mark my calendar for summer 2011.
